Montague Jesse Cox

In January 1918 Chailey Parish Magazine notes that M J Cox is serving with the Church Army as an NCO.  This information is then repeated monthly up to and including the final published roll call in July 1919.

M J Cox is Montague Jesse Cox who appears on the 1901 census as the seven year old son of farmer Jesse Cox of Teagues Farm, North Common, Chailey.  The household comprised Jesse (aged 41), his wife Elizabeth Cox (aged 42) and four children: Elizabeth Martha Cox (aged 13), Mabel Cox (aged 11), Lucy Jane Cox (aged eight) and Montague.  All the children and Jesse, were Chailey born.  Elizabeth Cox had been born in Wivelsfield.
