G/3576 Corporal Ernest Arthur Williams, 9th Royal Sussex Regiment

In October 1914, Chailey Parish Magazine notes that Ernest Williams is serving his King and Country and in October 1915 adds the information that he is a lance-corporal serving with the 9th Royal Sussex in France.

Ernest served continuously throughout the First World War, being promoted to corporal in January 1917.  The final entry in July 1919 reads: Williams, Corpl E, 9th Royal Sussex

I believe that Ernest Williams is the same Ernest Arthur Williams, whose medal index card is at the top of this post. This man, according to the medal roll, did serve with the 9th  Battalion and furthermore his regimental number is low enough for it to have been issued in October 1914 and therefore for Ernest to appear in the first Chailey parish magazine roll.
